Artist Biography
During over thirty-five years as an English teacher and administrator in Ohio and New Jersey, Kathleen Siegfried encouraged her students to discover connections between the expressive powers of literature and art. A huge print of Marc Chagall’s “Half Past Three (The Poet)” was a focal point in her classroom and later in methods workshops for English/language arts teachers. Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Music—Pink and Blue” was another frequently used resource for creative writing.
Midway through her life and career, she could no longer resist the urge to pick up a paintbrush. Inspired by a number of New Jersey artist/teachers, she developed competence in watercolor. When she retired and moved to Northwest Arkansas twelve years ago, she was excited to find a vibrant arts community that has encouraged her ongoing growth and her love of acrylic/mixed media painting.
Kathleen studied for several years at Studio Seven, participating in their yearly Art on the Creeks event in Rogers, AR. Her membership in Mid-South Watercolorists in Little Rock, AR, gave her the opportunity to study with nationally acclaimed artists who bolstered her passion for acrylic painting. She has earned recognition and awards for her work through her participation in Artists of Northwest Arkansas (ANA), where she is a featured gallery artist and a member of the ANA Board of Directors. In Fayetteville, AR, Kathleen was an exhibiting artist at Heartwood Gallery and in 2017 was curated into the Art Ventures Gallery, where she has been a represented artist. A member of Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, MO, she has exhibited in their annual membership show and was excited to earn an award at the grand opening exhibit of the Cornell Entertainment Center there in 2022.
